Silverson has developed the FMX5 laboratory-scale powder/liquid mixer and a new version of Flashmix with a stick attachment.

Dispersing the powder into the liquid again and again to produce a consistent, homogeneous product is the most difficult of all mixing tasks. Whether you need to add a large amount of powder or handle a small amount of key ingredients (such as active ingredients), Silverson has a range of products designed to provide the most effective way to add powder to a liquid.

For laboratory-scale mixing, with the introduction of the new FMX5, Silverson can now provide customers with the same powder/liquid mixing advantages as mass production. FMX5 is a laboratory-scale version of the production-scale Flashmix mixer, providing a simple, effective and hygienic laboratory-scale powder/liquid mixing method. It can also handle higher viscosity mixtures.

FMX5 is suitable for small-scale manufacturing and R&D work, with typical batch sizes up to 10 liters, depending on viscosity. The mixer provides an accurate method to predict the performance of the Flashmix on a production scale, making the scale-up process a simple task.

Flashmix can be used for larger-scale powder dispersion, with a fast powder incorporation rate of up to 500 lb/min. The new version is equipped with a powder feed rod attachment for powder mixing instead of a standard hopper. The rod is connected to the Flashmix via a specially modified powder inlet manifold, which creates a vacuum that draws the powder through the rod into the container. This allows the machine to suck the powder into the mixture directly from the original container, thereby minimizing handling requirements. This is particularly useful for free-flowing powders that are prone to dusting, such as Aerosil.

By using standard Flashmix hoppers or rod attachments, problems caused by operator error-such as adding powder too fast-can be effectively eliminated. For the Flashmix series, the mixer determines the powder addition rate, so repeatability is ensured, and a consistent, homogeneous product will be produced batch by batch.
